Banyuwangi Prepares Waste Management Master Plan

The process of creating a sustainable and more circular waste management plan for Banyuwangi Regency is coming to the final stages, and much is happening on the ground with the CLOCC programme in Banyuwangi.

As part of the final stages of developing the waste system, the Banyuwangi Waste Management Master Plan Workshop was held on December 18, 2022. The draft plan was also submitted to the Banyuwangi Regent on December 19, 2022.

As a follow-up, on January 17-19 2023, the CLOCC Programme together with the Government of Banyuwangi Regency conducted a meeting to agree on the next steps to finalize the plan. The result was an agreement on a strategic plan and action plan that emphasized system strengthening and modeling (piloting).

The waste management master plan team in Banyuwangi Regency produced three outputs: Firsty, an agreement on the stages of the implementation of the waste management masterplan. Secondly, it was agreed to start piloting the design of the agreement. This includes determining the activities and monitoring system that will oversee the program, the budget and advocacy on village and regency level. Thirdly, the stakeholders agreed on an action plan to prepare for the launch of the waste management master plan. The document will be launched on Indonesia’s National Waste Management Day, February 21, 2023.

2023 will be an exciting year for the CLOCC programme and stakeholders in Banyuwangi, as the focus will be to successfully implement the new waste management system.
