Clean Oceans through Clean Communities (CLOCC), an initiative by Avfall Norge with ISWA (International Solid Waste Association) as implementing partner, came to life in 2018. We are supported by Norad (the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation), and is a part of the Norwegian government’s development programme to reduce marine plastic pollution and microplastics. We have a global team consisting of members from Avfall Norge, ISWA and InSWA (Indonesia Solid Waste Association). Our vision is to achieve healthy societies and a clean environment - through inclusive and sustainable communities, green jobs and business opportunities in local circular economies.

Our goals are to prevent and significantly reduce marine litter and microplastics pollution (SDG 14.1), through:

Improved municipal solid waste collection and controlled management of waste (SDG 11.6.1)

OUR APPROACH

Integrated Sustainable Waste Management (ISWM) framework.

This is a highly participatory process where the stakeholders make decisions and choose the systems that meet their needs. We believe that shared knowledge can build capacity with local authorities and stakeholders in charge of waste management. We provide training, facilitate the process and give technical advice throughout the planning process. We manage all steps from waste generation to collection, segregation, transfer, sorting, treatment, recovery and disposal.

OUR TEAM

Global team of Committed Individuals

CLOCC consists of a truly global team based in Oslo, Vienna, Bangalore and Jakarta, with team members from Avfall Norge, ISWA and InSWA.
